In 1997 IDT began performing at the Des Moines Civic Center, where we continue to present this traditional ballet. In addition to the public performances, IDT presents a shortened version of the Nutcracker we call the “School Show”. Over 3,000 children from public, private, and home Metro area schools attend one of two shows. Another traditional event associated with the Nutcracker is the Sugar Plum Tea. Held in the Civic Center’s private dining room, guests enjoy holiday treats and mingle with costumed cast members.
