Performance Details:

Carnaval and Friends

What: A performance to include: Schumann’s Carnaval (A multi-genre piece), Lockdown (a world Premiere by Cynthia Adams), Tap Des Moines, and a performance of guest dancers from Iowa State University
When: Rehearsals will be on Saturdays at times dependent on your role(s) the performance will be on Saturday April 5, 2025 at 5pm.
Where: Forker Building Auditorium at Iowa State University in Ames
How Much: Dancers will pay $15.00 to audition, $37.00 as a performance fee, and will need to have a current donation at the performer level or above membership to IDT. Tickets will be sold at the door for $10.00.

The performance will be in 4 parts. IDT Dancers will be cast in roles for Carnaval (10-20 short piano pieces with multiple dance genres represented), Lockdown (a world premiere by Cynthia Adams on the theme of school shootings) will also participate in the tap portions (will not exceed 20 min total). The fourth part will be guest dancers from ISU.

We are expecting all dancers to be willing to learn and perform choreography in multiple genres. We are looking for dancers at all skill levels in all genres and who will enjoy the process and be available to rehearse on Saturdays in February and March. Choreographers include:  Janice Baker, Elizabeth Adams, Tasha Petersen, Cynthia Adams and possibly some surprise guest teachers.

TAP DES MOINES will include 3-4 dance numbers at varying skill levels. All dancers in the spring show will participate in the least challenging of the pieces and have the option to learn and perform in the spring show any or all of the other tap dance numbers that will also be performed at Tap Des Moines this summer at the Arts Festival and in Valley Junction. Participation in Tap Des Moines during the Summer is optional, but we hope that those who are in town during those performances would pay for a t-shirt and participate in those performances of the same choreography learned during the spring show rehearsals.

CARNAVAL: All dancers who audition will be included in the Entrance and Finale of Carnaval and will be assigned at least one additional section as well. Multiple short pieces by composer Robert Schumann explores the faces and personalities that attend the Carnaval in Vienna. The plan is for some of the pieces to be solos, some may be small groups and others may be larger corps de ballet roles depending on the number of dancers who audition and their skill level with the various dance genres each role will use: Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Modern, Acro, etc.

LOCKDOWN: Cynthia Adams, has received a grant to explore the topic of school shootings in dance. It is likely that it will not include all the dancers who audition.

GUEST DANCERS from Iowa State University will perform pieces from their repertoire for their spring show. We hope you will be inspired to attend their full performances later in the spring.

WE HOPE YOU’LL JOIN US!
